“Every decided colour does a certain violence to the eye,
and forces the organ to opposition.”
– Goethe
My work explores the interplay between light and colour and
how they can be used to manipulate the phenomenon of perception.
Being dyslexic I have difficulty with text, both with
reading and writing. My current work plays on this predicament, giving the
audience an insight into what it is like to struggle to read text. Colour and
light have been used to create the illusion of the text appearing, disappearing
and changing colour. This has enabled me to deconstruct language representing
my experience of confusion and distress. Using humour in my work has enabled me
to deal with my frustrations specific to text, creating work that has become
somewhat cathartic.
